This course is for coaches and consultants who want to grow their business authentically and intentionally. It serves to align your skills and services for more clients you can’t wait to work with…and a life you really enjoy.

Marking her 20th year as an Executive coach, Deborah Grayson Riegel, MSW, PCC pulls back the curtain and debunks the marketing myths holding coaches and consultants back from the very people they imagined their profession could help.

Recognized in the top 2% of female entrepreneurs in the US, Deborah created this course to show you exactly how she built a business and life she loves.

And what you will experience inside Mythbusting Marketing just might surprise you.

This is a 6-week live virtual program accompanied by a robust, self-paced online course. It combines the best of live discussions with Deborah and your cohort with “just in time” online learning that you dip into on your schedule and can revisit anytime you need it.

You’ll bring your real-life challenges (and celebrations!) to the group, get advice, support, tools, resources, coaching, and more. And we will wrap up with action plans, accountabilities, and next steps.

You’re welcome here.

What you can expect from Mythbusting Marketing ©:

✅ Week 1: Puncturing the Perfection Myth and Challenging Niche Myths

“I have to grow my list before I do anything else.”

“I’m waiting for my website to be perfect.”

“I haven’t gotten certified in [x] yet so I can’t get started.”

Do you notice that perfectionists and procrastinators have a lot in common? They’re waiting for the perfect time to start something. Or for the perfect market conditions to sell something. Or for a product, service, or offering to be perfect to launch it. Or for themselves to become perfect to feel ready to do the work. If any of these sound like you, you’re missing out on the freedom, relief, AND money-making opportunities of producing good-enough work that makes a meaningful impact. In this session, we will lower the bar (you read that right) so you do more of the work you love sooner rather than later.

And how do you know what work you should do and with whom? While there certainly can be “riches in niches” there are other ways for you to get clear about your focus – and make it clear to others who you’re the right coach or consultant for. In this session, you’ll learn how to identify your niche or your expertise or your convening power (you just need one), and then how to market your business to your ideal clients. We will also address how to make passive revenue from referring prospects and clients to experts with a different set of ideal clients.

✅ Week 2: Busting Business Development Myths

“If you build it, they will come.” While that worked for the movie Field of Dreams, building a program, package, or offering before you have built a relationship with prospects and clients is a huge time waster. Buyers don’t come to you because you’ve built a program; they come to you because you’ve built a relationship with them – and then they’re also interested in what you’re offering. But too many of us think of business development as yucky or pushy. In this session, you’ll learn five ways to stop stalling on business development (aka “I don’t want to feel rejected”) and get moving towards creating mutually beneficial relationships that yield more than sales.

✅ Week 3: Breaking Social Media Myths

One powerful way to engage in business development is by leveraging social media. And while using social media strategically can help you grow your business, it shouldn’t feel rigid, overwhelming – or yucky. In this session, we will discuss how to use fewer platforms (yes, FEWER) to make a bigger impact, and how to let go of many practices and beliefs about social media that make it feel like a burden rather than a bridge to prospects and clients.

✅ Week 4: Demystifying Money Myths

“Should I work for free in exchange for exposure?”

“I can’t tell my competitors what I charge!”

“You want me to charge HOW MUCH? Nobody will pay me that!”

Stop letting money myths drive you mad! In this interactive session, we will challenge common financial beliefs and behaviors that can hold you back. You will learn how to get more skilled in scoping your work and how to negotiate when someone asks you to reduce your rates. You’ll learn when to maintain fee integrity, and when to throw it away. You’ll learn to discuss fees with colleagues (and competitors) so that you know what to charge — and when to raise your rates, as well as lots of concrete language to help you make financial conversations much, much easier.

✅ Week 5: Combating Credibility and Visibility Myths

One way to raise your rates is to write a book. But do you NEED to have a book? Nope.

Another way to get more business is to have decades of lived experience in an industry so that you can coach in it. But you also don’t need to have done that.

Well, don’t you need someone famous to give you a testimonial for other people to want to hire you? While I’d be thrilled to give Oprah my entire website for her testimonial, I’m not sitting around waiting for it.

In this session, we will distinguish between credibility and visibility facts and myths so that you know how to use your time, money, and other resources wisely. You’ll learn to recognize pay-to-play “opportunities” to speak at conferences, be on paid “top coaches/consultant” lists (and more) – and decide strategically whether you want to invest in them. You’ll also learn to distinguish what credibility and visibility looks like in within your specific field so that you don’t hold yourself to anyone else’s expectations or standards.

✅ Week 6: Navigating Networking Myths

Whether you love or loathe networking – or you’re somewhere in between – it’s an important part of growing your business. But if you’re thinking of networking as something you MUST do, and if you’re thinking of your network as something that MUST be BIG, you’re thinking about it wrong. In this session, we will help you figure out the kind of networking that feels most aligned with your personality, preferences, and values so that you’re excited to make meaningful connections. You’ll also learn to say no without guilt to networking “opportunities” that won’t be worth your time or energy.
